Not very far  from our house a swampy area borders the roadway. We always slow down on this corner and some years we are lucky enough to see the new ducklings. The Mama and Papa carefully herding them along and across the road between ponds. I tried to count the little ones, There were more just below the drop off. I got up to 18. They only tolerated the photo shoot for a little while before the Gander came hissing and flapping at the car.

Incidentally, Geese mate for life. If their mate dies, they do not continue to search for a new one.
