BUTTERFLY GARDEN

Time for a Wild Wednesday. I spend a couple of hours playing with my new Cheery Lynn butterfly die. I can tell you there are going to be a lot of butterflies in my future. I couldn't believe how easily this project came together. One sheet of black 8-1/2" x 11" card stock will cut enough wing overlays for 12 butterflies. This is a terrific way to use your 3" x 6" scraps for the wing color too.  They are so quick and I think you will agree the results are worth it.
Here is the full array

I don't make cards...often, but this one has some interest. It is the perfect little 4" card and could be used as a quick thank you, birthday celebration. an invitation to a summer dinner, even a simple wedding invitation. The card on the left locks as you slide the butterflies together to overlap at the fold line.  Here is the process I used to make them.

  1. Using a sheet of 12" x 12" paper, cut an exact strip of 12"' x 4" {you can get 3 cards from a sheet}.
  2. Next carefully mark at 4 " intervals, fold towards center of your card. Use a bone folder for a crisp sharp fold line.
  3. Then take an outside edge square and fold one up and one down, {see photo}
  4.  Take some time, play with your butterfly orientation, remember only glue one half wing down on the flap, so your card can open.

HINT: I did not break the overlay die apart, they just cut easier as a strip of 3. For the background color use your scrap pieces, and a small piece of double sided tape on the plate 'C' to keep your die in place. For an exact fit, make sure and position the folded edge of your paper to the exact center of the 'angel wing'
The cuttlebug sandwich again for quick reference is:
- A plate
- C plate
- DIE
- PAPER
- B plate

Have fun, I know I did!!

Ooooo I LOVE them in white also. I wouldn't have thought of using tissue paper! I love the effect it gives.

Oh, tissue paper is a brilliant idea! And it's even lighter than vellum...oooooh :D

A card?? Am I at the right blog? lol I love it - such a neat fold and the butterflies are gorgeous. The tissue paper is brilliant! It adds volume and texture, but they look light enough to flutter away. Really beautiful.
