Canadian Picker.......and 10,000 Hits?

Last weekend was a beautiful sunny fall day.
I decided to ring my mom up and go for a visit.
She has several sheds, and I do mean sheds
full of collections of whatever did not fit in
the house anymore. Some things have been in them for over
50 years now. The roofs are caving in
and she is finally ready to let me have a peak.
We always called this one the 'Nordegg House'
after the ghost  town it was hauled from.
They had to wait for the river to freeze so
they could get it across and back on the road.
In those days the bridges were too narrow to accommodate a house on skids. It traveled over 50 miles to its new home.
And has been right where my parents set it down ever since.
I don't know about the family that lived there before it was abandon. The coal mine closed down and hundred of families had to move. I do know the house had one bedroom a kitchen and a living room.
That's it, no indoor during those days either.
Over the years it has housed chickens, extra lumber,
the treasures selvaged from my grandparents burning house.
A lot of memories mostly. And maybe that is what my
trip to the 'farm' was actually about. A chance for
my mom tell me the stories and let the memory
live one more time. Like all good hoarders
keepers of the memories, I hold these tales close
to me, like a hug from the people who lived,
loved and are lost to me forever now.
They helped shape the world I live in today.
Some of the tales, I do remember bits and pieces of.
Some give me insight into a time  forever gone.
Some things I am happy are gone.....
Trips here in the middle of the night were
never my favorite.
I will share some of the goodies I found  soon.
I am also approaching the 10,000 hits mark.
So, if you love old things and ephemera like I do,
leave me a comment here and I will include you in for a
10K RAK I am putting together.
It will be a box stuffed with some of my recent pickings
as well as interesting rusty bits and baubles for your altered
arts, scrapbooks or whatever you want to do with them.
No hoops to jump through, no need to follow me...
' My thanks to those that do'
Just leave a comment that I can track back to you
and I will put you into the draw. I will put everyone who
comments on the 'Picker RAK' posts from today forward
till I close comments. So, thank you for helping me
reach the 10,000 and more.
I will let you know by the end of October who the
gift recipient will be.
Okay enough teasing one picked item
do you see me smiling?
how would you like to have to do your laundry on with this?

Thanks for the visit, please stop by again soon.

Sounds like a wonderful visit, remember fondly the many visits with my grandparents them telling me their stories! We are fortunate to have the journals my gramma wrote in every day and she had written out my grampa's life story and had started on hers when she suddenly passed. What a amazing life it was 90 yrs ago! I would have been scared of the outhouse too:) I do follow you already and enjoy your blog!

What a fabulous post! I watch American Pickers all the time and just love that show! I bet they would have loved to have had the opportunity to scrummage around! I remember going into my Grandparents attic and seeing all kinds of cool things when I was a little girl. Those were definitely yesteryears and memories that I will hold onto forever! Thanks for the walk down memory lane and look forward to your upcoming posts!!!

Wow Sounds like fun! Unfortunately my parents took a lot of those old stories with them when they past and I never had grandparents. What I would do to have a chance to hear some old stories and sift through some old, loved pieces!
Hugs!

Those sheds are darling. I'd love to dig in them. :)
"Digging" up family memories and stories is even better. I wish I had written more down before my dad passed away.

We are in so many of the same things, such as WOYWW and Seth's collaborations. I thought I would stop by and saw you are at or nearly at 10K hits. Good for you!

Those sheds are sure to be full of treasures. I know they will be full of wonderful memories, too. What fun this should be to explore the contents of these sheds.

Amazing sheds. Love all things old. Am a bit of a hoarder myself. I don't make altered things so I may not be a suitable candidate for your giveaway but loved your shed post. Will be back to check more posts later in the week

What a fun visit to go along with you in pictures! My grandfather's garage was filled with goodies. I wish I could walk through there one more time. I can't wait to see what you found. Can't believe you had to use that outhouse?!

What a trip down memory lane! I too remember midnight trips to "the little house out back" in my youth!
