The First Real Date

As a mother of 4 gorgeous daughters
I knew this day would come.
It starts with the talk of the boy....
"He said this..... He said that..... we laughed at this and that"
And I say all the usual things...Is he nice....
does he talk respectfully......
.....Is he finishing school......Is he working?.
Satisfied with the answers
and the light in my girls face, I wait...
Then comes the "He says's I'm beautiful...
...Mom, he asked me to go out with him"
What did you say?, 'I didn't answer him yet'
Then she says 'yes'
....and they agree to go see a movie....

As I drive around the corner to pick her up from the show,
I see them together on the bench, waiting.....
They look relaxed and comfortable together...
his arm is around our baby girl, she looks so young
I see a glimpse of  the woman she is becoming
I am able to park right in front of them..
......The entire time, I try not to stare at this boy
.....I am taking his measure
I see how my darling blushes and
shines when she looks at him
I hope he is worthy of her sweetness

They get up off the bench he grabs her hand
They walk to my window and I meet him...
I get his full name, he has nice eyes...he is polite
I load up our precious cargo
that we are only lending him temporarily after all
I feel a spark in my heart for her, she looks so happy
I want her to always be this happy

The boy saunters up the street and around the corner...
He has to look casual and in control for her
I drive the same direction ...
..turning the opposite way than he did,
As I see  him, halfway down the block,
He does a little jump
of happiness and raises his fist in the air...
...unaware I am watching...
this makes me smile to see he is happy inside
to have borrowed my sweet darling for this her first date....

I'm in tears right now...this touched me so...

Mine just turned 5...yes, just 5, but it does go so very fast!

I know this day will come for us, someday, too...but, in my heart, she will always be my Baby.

Hugs,
Cameron

Oh Pam Sweetie...
Thanks for touching my heart this evening. Weren't those days as a young girl the best?

How wonderful that your sweet girl found a really nice boy. I love that you shared this evening. You brought such beautiful memories of each of my 3 kids first dates as well. My baby turned 30 in January. Where did the time go?

These are the moments, the best moments of our lives.

Have a great week sweet friend. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

Oh my gosh- this brought tears to my eyes! My beautiful daughter just turned 16 and I'm beginning to see glimpses of this. The darling picture you painted of this 'first time love' is the way it should always happen. Lucky girl.
